Annual OBA Foundation debate tackles #MeToo campaign

Join the OBA Foundation on June 6 for its third annual debate, where two seasoned legal minds will tackle the question: does ending a culture of impunity justify suspending the presumption of innocence?

“While the #MeToo campaign has been widely lauded for expressing society’s abhorrence of sexual misconduct and giving a voice to victims, many have decried the fact that many accused who proclaim their innocence have lost their careers and their reputations without having had the chance to have the evidence against them tested in a court of law.”

Toronto business lawyer Anton Katz, one of the trustees of the Foundation, says award-winning TV journalist and public policy lecturer Jennifer Hollett will moderate the debate between Brenda Cossman, professor of law and director of the Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies, University of Toronto and Dr. Frances Chapman, associate professor of law, Bora Laskin Faculty of Law, Lakehead University.

The debate takes place at Twenty Toronto Street Conferences and Events, 20 Toronto St., 2nd Floor. Registration starts at 5:15 p.m. and the hour-long debate starts at 6:30 p.m. This program is also available as a live webcast.
